Gecker, a member of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, is our pick to replace retiring State Senator John Watkins. The district includes the entirety of Powhatan County and portions of Chesterfield County and the City of Richmond.
Gecker has a lengthy environmental record in both the public and private sectors. Prior to his election as a Chesterfield supervisor, Gecker worked to preserve green space in his suburban home county. During his time as a sitting board member, Gecker has pushed for more stringent water safeguards in Chesterfield aimed at protecting the Swift Creek reservoir while also keeping pollution out of Chesapeake Bay tributaries.
As a senator, Gecker pledges to protect public lands and open space. He also promises to pursue water conservation and adaptation strategies and to support ongoing Chesapeake Bay cleanup initiatives.
